Could you share a brief overview of your career in music production?
I can hardly believe it’s been 28 years since I started! I’ve been fortunate to work across many styles—beginning as a jazz pianist, moving into pop and dance remixes, and eventually finding my way into classical music. It’s been a privilege to collaborate with remarkable artists and contribute wherever I can.
How did you come to work with Johns’ Boys Male Chorus, and what was your first impression of the choir’s sound and character?
Aled first reached out for advice, which quickly became a discussion about collaborating. From the start, I was struck by how extraordinary the choir sounded. I’ve worked with many ensembles, and while technical skill is common, Johns’ Boys bring more—warmth, character, and a real sense of connection. Their sound is excellent, but never overly academic.
From the outset, what was your creative vision for this EP?
The aim was to showcase the voices—keeping them front and centre. I also wanted to reinvent familiar songs, giving them fresh life. Finding innovative ways to present known material has been a hallmark of my career, and I wanted that reflected here.
Which track do you feel best captures the choir’s strengths, and why?
Fall on Me—it’s a beautiful piece. The vocals move from soft and tender to powerful and fiery, perfectly showing what the choir can do. They should be immensely proud of it.
What do you hope listeners will experience when they hear the EP for the first time?
I hope they feel the commitment of every voice. That dedication is woven into every track.
In your opinion, what sets Johns’ Boys apart in today’s choral landscape?
Their performances combine technical excellence with genuine emotion. Nothing feels mechanical or over-rehearsed. I must also credit Aled—he’s the heartbeat of the choir. Without him, Johns’ Boys wouldn’t be half as extraordinary. He’s a remarkable musician and an exceptional human being.
Would you like to collaborate with the choir again?
I’d be devastated not to. We’ve built an incredible creative chemistry, and I hope this is just the beginning. Working with artists of this calibre is a privilege, and I’m honoured to have helped create this EP.
