Before You Go Q&A with Aled Phillips

Q: What does releasing this new EP mean to you and the choir?

Aled: It’s a proud moment for us all. Before You Go feels like the next step in our journey — music that truly shows who we are now as a choir.

Q: How did you choose the songs?

Aled: We thought carefully about what our audiences enjoy most, what’s been most popular in concert, and which pieces connected so well on our first EP. From there, we chose four: the heartfelt title track Before You Go, uplifting He Lives in You, tender Angels, and the rousing Bread of Heaven (Cwm Rhondda). Together they create a journey of comfort, reflection, and hope.

Q: What was the recording process like?

Aled: Hard work but hugely rewarding. I won’t say which section were the “one-take wonders” and which made me wonder! Now that we’re recognised as artists in our own right, it’s been refreshing to step a little away from the glitz of TV shows like Britain’s Got Talent. Recording with iconic producer Jon Cohen was a privilege — his expertise brought out the best in every note.

For the EP, I also have a Q&A from the producer if you’d like me to share it.
