Wynne Evans
Wynne Evans is a broadcaster, presenter, and professionally trained opera singer with a daily radio show on BBC Radio Wales and two number one classical music albums. Born in South West Wales, he studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio in London.
2023 was a very exciting year for Wynne, after many gruelling and testing weeks of showcasing his cooking abilities, he was recognised for his natural and creative culinary skills and was crowned the Celebrity MasterChef Champion 2023. He has also competed against his long-term friend, Joanna Page, searching for antiques on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, and proved that he’s not totally ‘pointless’ as a contestant on Pointless. He has also been presenting on BBC Radio 2.
His daily music and chat radio show is the highest rating show on BBC Radio Wales, with a very loyal following of ‘Wynners’. He has previously had radio shows on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. Wynne has had his very own TV series on BBC One Wales – One Night Only with Wynne Evans, Wynne’s Welsh 70s, Wynne at the Deep End and In It to Wynne It. Wynne delights in a live audience and has hosted for the BBC Wales Children In Need, The International Eisteddfod and their St David’s Day coverage. He has also presented 4 series of his own TV show for S4C.
Throughout his 25-year operatic career he has been a principal at most of the major opera houses around the world, from The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to Paris Opera De Lyon, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He sang the role of PIANGI in the 25-year anniversary performance of The Phantom of the Opera, which was broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall to cinemas worldwide. Wynne has also given over 200 performances at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
In case you think you recognise Wynne, you would be absolutely right! He has achieved extraordinary things, including appearing in millions of homes for Go.Compare as the spoof opera star, Gio Compario. He has been the brand mascot for 15 years, making over 150 ads for the company, something that is unique to just Wynne. Not only does Wynne appear in the adverts, he is the brains behind writing and producing some of them.
As a lifelong supporter of Tottenham Hotspur, Wynne was delighted to perform at their final game at White Hart Lane and reprised the song at the opening of the new stadium to 62,000 fans. To date, he has performed at over 20 Welsh rugby internationals, including famously responding to the New Zealand Haka.
He is an experienced host for corporate events and can regularly be seen presenting awards ceremonies and performing at events.
As well as being a trustee of Grange Park Opera and Patron of Ty Cymorth, he has an honorary Fellowship from the University of Wales, was honoured by the National Eisteddfod with the title of Gorsedd of the Bards, and was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Honours list.
