Our Story
Johns’ Boys Male Chorus is one of the most decorated British male choirs in history.
Formed in 2016 by Aled Phillips, Johns’ Boys initially came together for a Noson Lawen to celebrate the life and work of two composers and conductors from the village of Rhosllannerchrugog, John Tudor Davies and John Glyn Williams.
Following the success of that very special occasion, it became apparent to Aled and all of the singers that it would be foolish to pass up the opportunity to continue to make music together.

Their achievements didn’t end there however as in 2019 they became the first Welsh Male Voice Choir, and only the third male voice choir in the history of the competition, to win the prestigious title of Choir of the World at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.
2019 proved to be an incredible year for the choir as they were also victorious in the Choir of Wales of competition and the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
They have also made numerous TV appearances, including the Llangollen Eisteddfod’s Gala Concert (S4C), Noson Lawen (S4C) and The Last Night of the Proms (BBC), where they represented Wales with Aled’s arrangement of O Gymru. Following a national search, the choir was chosen to appear in the Netflix blockbuster drama Stay Close.

The choir has performed in many prestigious concert venues throughout Great Britain and regularly sings in the Principality Stadium for Welsh Rugby Union home international games. Choir members hail from all over North Wales and the northwest of England, with several choristers currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music and the BIMM Institute, as well as other leading universities across the country.
Many of Johns’ Boys have enjoyed notable individual success, winning major prizes in Eisteddfods and a range of music festivals. The choir loves creating music outside of the traditional Male Voice Choir repertoire, exploring opera, pop music and the avant-garde, as well as premiering new music and performing arrangements written especially for them.
Many new fans, however, will be more familiar with Johns’ Boys from their very recent exploits on Britain’s Got Talent. Performing Calum Scott’s ‘Biblical’, they entranced the judges with their virtuosic vocals, eliciting a standing ovation from both the judges and audience. John’s’ Boys received a resounding ‘Yes!’ from each judge, enabling them to progress to the live semi-finals.
Their appearance in those semi-finals brought further praise, with a certain Simon Cowell describing their performance as, “quite beautiful!” He went on to declare, “This was a moment. It was a brilliant song choice, and you are a brilliant choir. I loved it!” In addition to this effusive praise Johns’ Boys also garnered thousands – indeed millions – of new followers, with 2 million viewing their performance on YouTube and a further 16 million doing so on Facebook.
The choir has recently been inundated with concert requests from all over the world and their next venture will be a 2024 British Tour and the release of their much awaited EP ‘Biblical’.
