Johns’ Boys Male Chorus
The Legacy of Welsh Male Choral Music
Wales is a land of song, and its male voice choir tradition is at the heart of this heritage. Born in coal mining and industrial communities, these choirs offered solace and strength to men after long shifts underground. United in harmony, they turned hardship into hope, performing in chapels, pubs, and community halls.
Today, Johns’ Boys continues this powerful tradition while reshaping it for modern audiences. Blending soul-stirring harmonies with fresh creativity, their performances captivate with movement, storytelling, and a diverse repertoire spanning classical, pop, and Welsh folk music.
From Rhos to the World:
The Story of Johns’ Boys
Named in honour of two influential choir leaders from Rhosllannerchrugog, Johns’ Boys began in 2016 as a one-off performance at the Stiwt Theatre. Their heartfelt harmonies struck a chord, and the choir continued beyond that special evening.
In just a few years, Johns’ Boys rose to prominence, becoming the first British male voice choir to win Choir of the World at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. They’ve also wowed audiences on Britain’s Got Talent, delivering moving performances that earned standing ovations and praise from the judges.

“That was quite beautiful! This was a moment.”
