Choir Spotlight

Name: Shea Ferron

How long have you been a member of Johns’ Boys?

Since 2017

What inspired you to join the choir?

I always wanted to be part of a Male Voice Choir – when the opportunity came up, I grabbed it!

Do you have any musical background or experience before joining?

Yes – I’ve been singing since I was 7 years old.

What’s your favourite song to perform with the choir and why?

O Sole Mioit’s pure fun and gives me a chance to really bring out the drama and show off some acting skills too!

What has been the most memorable performance or event for you?

Singing in the final of Choir of the World in Llangollen in 2019. The atmosphere was incredible – a very special moment.

How would you describe the camaraderie within the choir?

At times it can be feral – but honestly, it’s the best bunch of lads you could ask for. A brilliant mix of chaos and connection!

What’s the biggest challenge of being in a choir like Johns’ Boys?

Always staying on top of your vocal game – the standard is high, so you’ve got to bring your best every time.

Do you have a pre-performance ritual or superstition?

I like to stand near the sound desk at the back of the auditorium and soak up the atmosphere of the audience before going on.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

The Sydney Opera House – because… it’s the Sydney Opera House!!!

What are you most excited about for the choir’s future?

Just seeing where this journey takes us. The future looks exciting, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.

How has being part of Johns’ Boys impacted you personally?

It’s helped me grow massively as a musician and performer – it’s even inspired me to turn my passion into a career.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about joining a choir?

Just do it! You’ll sing top-quality music in incredible venues, with top-class chaos and great laughs. And the pints after a concert? Always a good time!
