Choir Spotlight

Name: Leigh Williams

How long have you been a member of Johns’ Boys?

18 months

What inspired you to join the choir?

Their BGT audition amazed me and gave the push to get back into singing

Do you have any musical background or experience before joining?

I used to sing a long time ago when I was in school! I was involved in many professional productions at Theatre Clwyd from the age of 9 and joined the four counties youth choir when in high school

What’s your favourite song to perform with the choir and why?

Cwm Rhonda is my favourite song, the way it builds throughout. The passion that the song brings out especially in the Amen’s at the end!

What has been the most memorable performance or event for you?

This is a really tough question, there has been so many in such a short time! My most memorable concert was Bristol last year! It was so intimate but the sound in the hall was incredible, and the audience was fantastic!

How would you describe the camaraderie within the choir?

The choir is a family away from family! Such a great group of lads that join together for their passion of music! Incredible!

What’s the biggest challenge of being in a choir like Johns’ Boys?

The choir is a huge commitment, especially with a young family! However when my kids come to see me at a concert they are incredibly proud which is a great feeling!

Do you have a pre-performance ritual or superstition?

I like to be prepared and always have a copy of the running order on my iPad … even if this doesn’t change from concert to concert!

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I would love to sing at the Albert hall!

What are you most excited about for the choir’s future?

There are so many exciting things to look forward to! The Canadian tour is going to be epic!

How has being part of Johns’ Boys impacted you personally?

Being part of this choir has given me something that I never knew was missing! Being with a group of lads with similar interest is such a confidence booster! Doing something for me and me only is such a great thing!

What advice would you give to someone thinking about joining a choir?

If you can put the commitment in, you will reap the rewards ten fold! I have never once though ‘I can’t be bothered today’ or ‘I really don’t want to do this concert’ it’s such an incredible experience and Johns’ boys can give you some incredible opportunities!
