Name: Berwyn Jones
How long have you been a member of Johns’ Boys?
Since 2025.
What inspired you to join the choir?
I wanted to reconnect with singing, catch up with old friends, and meet new ones. Being part of something musical again felt like the right step.
Do you have any musical background or experience before joining?
Yes—I’ve sung in school choirs and country choirs throughout my life and was a member of the National Youth Choir of Wales.
What’s your favourite song to perform with the choir and why?
Nothing Like a Dame is a clear favourite. It’s theatrical, fun, and instantly lifts the energy on stage. You can see it on our faces and feel it in the audience—it’s pure joy from start to finish.
What has been the most memorable performance or event for you?
Performing Bring Him Home really stood out. It’s a well-known piece, but the Johns’ Boys arrangement brings something fresh and powerful. It felt like a perfect example of what makes our choir unique.
How would you describe the camaraderie within the choir?
It’s a brilliant mix of fun and professionalism. As a new member, I’ve been struck by how easily the group shifts from laughter and banter to focused performance mode. Everyone knows when it’s time to step up.
What’s the biggest challenge of being in a choir like Johns’ Boys?
The sheer volume of music to learn—but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how quickly it’s come together.
Do you have a pre-performance ritual or superstition?
Plenty of water, and always double-checking I’ve packed my bow tie.
If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Japan would be incredible, but I’d also love the chance to sing the national anthem before a major Wales match at Cardiff City Stadium. That would be unforgettable.
What are you most excited about for the choir’s future?
Seeing the choir’s reputation continue to grow and having the chance to perform in more amazing venues.
How has being part of Johns’ Boys impacted you personally?
It’s boosted my confidence in singing and helped me reconnect with old friends and the Rhos area after eight years away. I’ve also made some great new friendships along the way.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about joining a choir?
It might feel a bit daunting at first, but you’ll quickly feel at home. You’ll have a great time and gain a real sense of achievement.
